Sox v. Yankees this weekend… go Boston!

(see earlier)

…and as is sometimes deemed necessary by my excessively morose tumblrings(?), let us watch a video of cute animals, and rejoice in the sight of ducklings triumphantly overcoming one of life’s many obstacles.

The Laughing Heart - Bukowski (as read by Tom Waits)

your life is your life

don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.

be on the watch.

there are ways out.

there is a light somewhere.

it may not be much light but

it beats the darkness.

be on the watch.

the gods will offer you chances.

know them.

take them.

you can’t beat death but

you can beat death in life, sometimes.

and the more often you learn to do it,

the more light there will be.

your life is your life.

know it while you have it.

you are marvelous

the gods wait to delight

in you

Did an analysis of this piece a few years back for class. So good indeed.

cubicle17:

John Coltrane - “Alabama”

Coltrane wrote the song ‘Alabama’ in response to the [16th Street Baptist Church] bombing. He patterned his saxophone playing on Martin Luther King’s funeral speech. Midway through the song, mirroring the point where King transforms his mourning into a statement of renewed determination for the struggle against racism, Elvin Jones’s drumming rises from a whisper to a pounding rage. He wanted this crescendo to signify the rising of the civil rights movement.

So. Good.
